Information technology is the study or use of systems for storing, retrieving, and sending information. The field of information technology covers the support, administration, and design of telecommunications and computer systems. According to Forbes, Information technology (IT) careers are growing quickly and offer above-average salaries. Some jobs in information technology are expected to grow as much as 22% from 2020 to 2030 (Galarita, 2023). This blog post will review several careers in IT and provide details of the position.
I decided to review the following Computer Network Support Specialist, Database Administrator, and Network and Computer Systems Administrator.
As a Computer Network Support Specialist, the primary duties would be to analyze, test, troubleshoot and evaluate network systems as well as perform network maintenance. To be effective in this position, a person would need to have knowledge of circuit boards, computer hardware, software, and applications and programming (15-1231.00 - computer network support specialists).
A Database administrator administers, test, and implement computer databases. A database administrator must have knowledge of database management system software such as Oracle SQL, circuit boards, computer hardware, software, and applications and programming.
A Network and Computer Systems Administrator maintain and administer an organization's computer networks, computer hardware, systems software, applications software, operating systems, and servers. To be effective in this position, a person would need to have knowledge of circuit boards, computer hardware, software, applications, and programming.
After reviewing a few positions within the Information Technology field, all of the positions require knowledge of circuit boards, computer hardware, software, and applications and programming. The programs learned in TEC 101 are the basic fundamentals for any position in a technology field.
